The Quest to be Fit

Tracking my journey to better health

Back in action May 4, 2009

Wow, it has been four days since my last post. So sorry for my absence, faithful followers!  In the last four days it seems like I’ve done a lot and been busy, but ask me about it now and I draw some major blanks 😐  Let’s see what the picture story tells… [uploaded pics] Whoa there, I have like thirty pics from the last four days.  I’ll spare you the usual boring stuff and let you see the more exciting finds.

Fred Meyer had a huge cosmetics/beauty/skin care sale, so I mosied over there Friday night after I hit the gym to reward myself for hitting weights and check out the deals.  Lately I’ve been feeling like I needed some more eye interest, so I looked through every single makeup brand’s liquid/felt tip eyeliners.  Finally I settled on these by Fresh Minerals:  smokey grey liquid liner, and shiny black waterproof felt pen liner.  On my way to the checkstand I saw the Real Simple and had to buy it–just too perfect given what I was buying.

Saturday I was a busy bee.  I woke up at 7, hit up Fred Meyer for groceries, Petsmart for LB’s food, and Trader Joe’s for a particular product(details later on…).  Then I was off to volunteer at the Spring Garden Fair; I manned a table about household hazardous products/alternatives, and compost from 10 to 1:30.  I wish I had more time and money to spend in the garden, cause this fair was amazing!

Bees!  There was a honey/bee table with this live hive front and center.  The queen was surprisingly small–I always thought they were huge compared to their drones and workers, but not so in this case.  She did have a longer abdomen though.

The vendors covered a huge area–like this sea of tents times ten.  Quite overwhelming!

It was pouring rain when I left, and without a coat or umbrella I got soaked. 😦  Once home I hit up a late lunch, as I only gnawed on a carrot for a snack since breakfast, and it was nearing 2:30.  A piece of whole wheat toast spread with my special TJ’s find–Better N Peanut Butter.  The first taste of this reminded me of any peanut butter flavored diet/health/energy bar I’ve ever had–sorta sweet, tastes like PB, but different.  I ate that paired with a Fuji.  Like 20 minutes later I was still hungry, so I ate more!

…a nice bowl of crack with almond milk 🙂 Mmmmmmm

I had planned out a different dinner, one that I like to have every once in awhile:  a frisee salad with a shallot/red wine vinegar/herb dressing, homemade croutons, bacon, and a poached egg.  Getting this sucker ready took way longer than I anticipated though for a few reasons:  after washing, spinning, and shredding my frisee I discovered it was inedibly bitter. Was that really frisee?  Some funky kind of kale?  Who knows.  Then the first batch of bacon turned out a wee bit burnt, so I made more but ended up overpoaching my eggs.  By the time I put everything together I wasn’t too hopeful about how it’d taste, but it was great!  The glasses of pinot gris also helped 🙂

Saturday night I got around to reading Real Simple, and took notes on some great finds.  Last Monday I picked up Garnier Nutritioniste Ultra Lift Firming Eye Cream (which I LOVE), and it was mentioned in the mag 🙂  I also noted $.99 Wet’n’Wild eye liners, $8 Covergirl Outlast Lip Stain, and several other good buys or effective products.  All this made me decide to hit up Freddy’s again while the sale was still on, so I headed out around 9pm.  After TWO HOURS I came home with these items:

Garnier Nutritionist Skin Renew Anti-Sun Damage Moisturizer, five new pair of earrings, a Wet’nWild brow/eyeliner pencil, some clear mascara for brow fixin’, and Covergirl Outlast Lip Stain.  I looked through like 100 products before settling on these in an effort to not blow my budget, buy what I really only needed (earrings are a necessity, right?).  All this for like $30–yippee!! I also got these:

No, that isn’t a turd on a stick :0  It’s a Skinny Cow Fudge bar, and had only 100 calories with a whopping 4 grams of fiber.  Taste was so-so, but overall not too shabby.  Not quite the Jello Pudding Pops of my childhood, but WTF?

All this makeup buying and reading made me want to organize my makeup, so I whipped it out and dove in.  Here’s what I started with:

Of course I intended to end with an “after” pick, but that didn’t happen.  Picture less makeup, and 1/2 of it no longer in a business card box, but instead another organizer tray.  Voila!

Sunday a.m. came waaaaay toooooo fast, but going to bed at like 2 didn’t help.  I added Better’N’PB to my oats, and they did lend a certain sweetness that I’ve been craving, but I missed the nutty chunks of my regular crunchy PB.

I decided to skip yoga in lieu of a good leg/shoulder/tricep workout and a majorly sweaty stair mill sesh.  Hot stuff!  I got two compliments while there:  “Good form” while doing skull crushers, and “you’ve leaned out a lot since I last saw you” while doing shoulders.  That last one was from my gym boyfriend, a cute (gay?) guy named Brian I have unintended dates on the stair mill with sometimes.  I hadn’t seen him in a few months, so we caught up and talked diet/working out/sanity for awhile.  Fun stuff!

Once home I fixed up a yummy mix of naughty and nice: egg white scramble with carrot and avocado, grapes, a carrot, and bacon.  Oooh-la-la!  SO tasty.  Bacon should also be considered part of the crack family if you ask me…

After this and some organizing I busted out two hours of shitty hell yardwork.  Pulling gnarly weeds I’ve let get out of control, trimming my roses like three months too late, and seeing all the ants that have infiltrated the cracks in my driveway was oh so enjoyable.  Maybe I can afford to hire yard help after all…

I wanted to try out my new makeup finds after taking a shower, so I used my new face lotion, some smokey grey liquid liner and the lipstain, and threw on my new hoopy earrings before heading out to Mexican.  My eyelids sag so you can’t see the great lining job I did, but here I am!

Re: the products–the GN Anti-Sun Damage lotion smells great (not very strong and fruity) and goes on easily, the eye liner was a thicker consistency than I expected but still okay, and the lipstain was way brighter than I realized–like fuschia.  I ended up taking it off, but it did stain my lips a nice pink hue 🙂

While still on the products note, there are a few I’ve tried in the last few months that I really don’t care for:  Aveeno Positively Ageless Face Serum and Aveeno Postively Radiant Daily Moisturizer.  Considering these are natural products they sure smell like shit!  They both have a strong non-natural fragrance that was bearable for the lotion, but unbearable for the serum.  The serum also made me break out a little, so I complained to Aveeno and got a coupon for up to $20 toward a free product!  Woo-hoo!  Squeaky wheel does get the grease, right?

Sunday night I cleaned out my bathroom, painted my toes, and watched The Celebrity Apprentice at the same time.  My bathroom is tiny, and when I moved in here ~4yrs ago I purged a lot of stuff, but I sure had lots of shit to get rid of.  I found that I was holding on to things for “what if” and because someone gave it to me, but that I would never use it or it was spoiled.  Perhaps I can take this Spring Cleaning motivation and apply it to my wardrobe over the next few weekends!

Today was busy at work, and my eats were mostly the same as usual (oatmeal and sandwich).  Dinner was a pork chop, half a cob of corn, and some canned grean beans.  I only ate half the pork, but thoroughly enjoyed the corn.

My Agent of Change class was good tonight, and I’m excited to get out and start making a difference in my office buildings.  So excited in fact that I ate some yogurt and a serving of crack when I got home 😉
